Babb Family Project
Creating a Safer, More Accessible Home for Gabe Babb and Family
Gabe lives with Dandy-Walker Malformation, a condition that affects the development of the cerebellum, the part of the brain responsible for coordinating movement. This condition can cause developmental delays, particularly with motor skills such as crawling, walking, and coordination, as well as learning and intellectual challenges.
As Gabe continues to grow, accessibility has become an increasing challenge for his family. With no wheelchair ramp or lift at their home, Gabe's father was having to physically lift and carry him inside each time they entered the house. With Gabe now approaching 85 pounds, this daily task was becoming increasingly difficult. The family identified a wheelchair lift as their greatest priority to help make their home safer and more accessible.
The Project
We partnered with Next Day Access Knoxville to install an automatic wheelchair lift in the family's garage, providing Gabe with a safer and easier way to enter and exit his home. The project also included stairs to ensure the entrance remained accessible for the entire family.
This transformation helps ease the daily physical challenges Gabe's family faces while providing a safer, more comfortable way for him to access his home.
